Off-page SEO checklist
Off-page SEO refers to actions you can take apart from your website to increase its authority and relevance in search engines. Below lists key tactics that I use when improving a website’s off-page SEO.
Backlinks (Inbound Links): Acquire high-quality, authoritative backlinks from reputable websites. Quality matters more than quantity. Natural backlinks from relevant, trustworthy sources can significantly boost your website's authority as some of the authority from the linking site is shared with the page. You can actively build a backlink profile by creating shareable content, guest posting on relevant websites, reaching out to influencers, and participating in industry-specific forums and communities.
Brand Mentions: Monitor and encourage brand mentions on other websites and social media. Brand mentions can indirectly affect your SEO by increasing your online visibility. Depending on your business, establishing and maintaining a solid presence on social media platforms improves visibility and brand awareness. Sharing content, engaging with your audience, and promoting your website can indirectly impact your SEO. Media mentions and links from news sources can also boost your authority.
Online Reputation Management: Manage your online reputation by addressing customer reviews and comments on review sites, social media, and other platforms. Participate in online communities, discussion forums, and niche-specific groups. Contribute valuable insights and content to establish yourself as an authority in your field. Monitor for negative keywords, disavow toxic backlinks and regularly check for negative marketing (e.g., competitors advertising on your brand name). Engage in online PR efforts and reach out to journalists and bloggers for your content or business coverage.
Content Promotion: Promote your content through email marketing, newsletters, and other promotional channels. Increased visibility can lead to more backlinks and traffic. Utilize video platforms like YouTube to create and share engaging video content. Optimize video titles, descriptions, and tags for SEO.
Monitor Competitors: Analyze your competitors' backlink profiles and off-page strategies to identify opportunities for improvement. It’s good to be creative with some of your marketing efforts but the majority should be tried and true strategies. Test everything and keep what works.
Influencer Marketing: Partner with influencers in your niche to promote your content or products. Influencers can help you reach a broader audience and generate more backlinks. Influencers charge upfront fees to create advertisements for your business on their platforms.
Affiliate Marketing: Partner with affiliates who will push your products for a reasonable commission. Influencers can often, but not always, be good affiliates. Affiliates are salesmen, and influencers are advertisers.
Reviewers: Partner with reviewers who will produce video or blog reviews of your products or services. These reviews should showcase your highlights and be readily discovered in search engines when people are reviewing your products.
